Cosmetic Eyebrow Tattoo

What is Cosmetic Tattoo? Cosmetic Tattoo is a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure and involves tattooing a specialised pigment into the upper layers of the skin to enhance and define the eyebrows.

Who can have Cosmetic Tattoo? A Eyebrow Tattoo is suitable for clients who have sparse or missing brow hair, no eyebrow hair (alopecea) or who have eyebrow hair but love the ease of filled in or powdered brow look.  Unfortunately not every client can have a Cosmetic Tattoo procedure. This includes clients who are under 18, pregnant, lactating, keloid prone, epileptic, receiving chemotherapy, diabetic or who have thin blood.

About the procedure: Eyebrow Tattoo is a two appointment process and are preformed 4-6 weeks apart (an exsisitng Tattoo may be an acception). It is important to complete both sessions for best results.

The initial appointment takes 3 hours. During this time, a thorough consultation is done where we discuss your desired look, select a colour and draw the outline of your perfect brow shape and symmetry for your approval.

Once you are happy with the shape we use a hand held tattoo machine with a single use sterile needle tip with pigment to create your brows. We may to 2-4 passes of pigment depending on your desired outcome. Clients are not required to pre numb for the procedure as the needle only pentrates the superficial upper layers on the skin, we applying numbing agent during the procedure after the first pass (this contains Lidocaine and Epinephrine).

How long does it last? Cosmetic Tattoo is semi permanent and lasts 1-3 years.  The pigment will begin to fade after 12 months. Results may vary due to the composition of the skin and any previous work.  Touch ups are reccommended every 12-24 months to keep looking fresh for those that have softened or faded. Those who opt for a light shade or a softer look, may require more frequent touch ups.

Procedure Information

Pre-procedure

  • 24 hours prior to your appointment DO NOT drink alcohol or caffine. This will thin the blood causing bleeding which will reduce the efficacy of pigment implantation.
  • 72 hours prior to your appointment DO NOT take advil, ibuprofen, asprin, niacin or vitamin e or other blood thinners, unless medically necessary.
  • Avoid booking during your menstrual cycle as it can increase your sensitivity.
  • No waxing, tanning or tinting 3 days before the appointment.
  • Dermal Filler, antri-wrinkle injections, chemical or AHA peels, Laser or IPL treatments and exposure to sunlight is NOT recommended 30 days before the treatment.
  • You must be off Roaccutane for six months before a Tattoo procedure.
  • Do not use AHA, Vitamin A or Retinol 30 days before the procedure as this affects how the pigment is absorbed and retained by the skin.

Post-procedure

Immediately after your procedure in the first 10 days, your brows will appear significantly darker and more defined than perhaps your desired look. It may continue to get darker over the next few days as scabs begin to form, however this is not an accurate indication of the finished and healed result.

The complete healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

During the first 7 days, avoid: all creams (except the protective ones), all the makeup (foundation) in the eyebrow area. Avoid exercises that cause excessive sweating, sauna and facial massage.

During the first 30 days, avoid: sun tanning, sun beds, light (laser or IPL) therapy, chemical peels, fruit acids, microdermabrasion and creams that contain regeneration factors (such as Vitamin A/Retinol).

You should always avoid Fraxel, laser/IPL skin treatments over the treated area during the healing period because they can destroy the pigment, cause inflammation and faster fading out of the pigment can happen if you use antibiotics or hormonal therapy. It is nessessary to clean the Eyebrows of Lymph fluid to reduce scabbing.

Day 1: Clean the eyebrows gently 90 minutes after the procedure using a cotton pad and water. Clean 3 more times (90 mins apart). Follow the direction of the hair only. Apply a thin layer of aftercare cream after the last clean.

Day 2-7: Put a thin layer of cream on once to twice a day. They should feel moisturised (not too heavy but not too dry). Avoid water.

30-40% of your brow colour will fade as the scabs fall off within 7-10 days. In some cases, the scabs may take longer to heal and fall off.

DO NOT remove the scabs (by exfoliation, picking or rubbing). The pigment is within the scab and you do not want to pull any pigment out of your skin prematurely. We all heal differently and what works on one client may not be effective on another client.

Day 8-10: During this time your brows will soften, lightening and even seem to disappear - do not panic - this is your skins natural regeneration and exfoliation process.

Day 14-30: During the final phase of healing, your brows may seem too light, uneven or patchy. You will not see the final results until 30-50 days.
